REACT Kick-off Meeting in Giessen (GER)
15 December 2022
Just a few weeks after the official launch of the project “REACT – Rapid Elimination of Invasive Agricultural Pest Outbreaks by Tackling them with Sterile Insect Technique Programs”, the international project team is meeting at Justus Liebig University in Giessen to explore the possibilities of long-term and pesticide-free methods of pest control in the context of crops. The project team follows the invitation of the project coordinator and expert in insect biotechnology Prof. Dr. Marc Schetelig.
The project, selected by the European Commission, responds to the negative impact of insect infestations on vegetable and fruit production. In addition to contributing to the further development of basic research in the field of biotechnology, the researchers expect to gain insights into how to deal with the two fly species Bactrocera dorsalis and Bactrocera zonata, which have recently become more prevalent in Europe.
The kick-off meeting will take place from 18.01 to 20.01.2023 and will include a first semi-public session where members to theAdvisory Board are invited to comment on the project strategies, methods, results, and outcomes.
